The Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, convened an executive review meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, directors, and staff of the Epidemiology Unit to evaluate the state’s current level of preparedness against Ebola.

During the session, officials conducted a comprehensive audit of existing disease surveillance frameworks, emergency response protocols, and resource allocations across all local government areas.

Dr. Onojaeme stressed that maintaining an elevated state of alert is essential to preventing potential outbreaks and ensuring seamless coordination among key health sector stakeholders.

Emphasizing a strategic shift toward preventive healthcare, the Commissioner highlighted proactive surveillance, early detection, and rapid response as the three pillars of the state’s epidemic control strategy.

He urged the Epidemiology Unit to optimize data gathering at border entry points, healthcare facilities, and local communities to ensure swift identification of potential cases.

He underscored that timely detection remains the single most effective barrier against widespread transmission, mandating immediate capacity-building updates for frontline healthcare professionals across Delta State.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to public safety, the Health Ministry is stepping up public awareness campaigns and fortifying medical infrastructure across rapid response centers.

Dr. Onojaeme assured residents that the ministry is leaving no stone unturned to safeguard lives, pledging continued provision of personal protective equipment, testing kits, and operational support to emergency teams.

He urged Deltans to stay vigilant, maintain proper hygiene practices, and promptly report any suspicious health symptoms to local health authorities.
